The rumor on is that we will be looking at possibly getting Santana from the Twins.  Who would you be willing to give up for him considering we sign him to an extension?  I would be willing to give up Lester, Delcarman.  Thoughts?

I want Santana on the mets.....but if i did want him on the sox, I would trade Lester, elsbury, and some other guys they don't need. I'm not sure though.

**MODIFIED**: On second thought, the redsox have enought effective starting pitching as it is. They DONT need Santana.

You can never have enough pitching and adding a solid arm in santana would only bolster the starting rotation and pullpen.  You win championships in this order...Pitching/Defense/Hitting

I just read that we will now be adding elsbury to the offer to the twins. If we have to add Bucholz to the offer as well then I would have to pass.  I would let Ellsbury and Lester go for Santana  I really do not want to be stuck now with CoCo in center field.  Then again having Santana in the rotation would make the rotation nasty.  Beckett, Santana, Dice-K, Schilling, Bucholz.  Can you say world champs.

They yankees said today was the deadline and so far it seems like the Twins have not accepted their offer.  If it is true that the yankees are now offically out of the Santana Sweepstakes then he is essentially a Red Sox.  I am getting goosebumps just thinking about our rotation with Santana.

From the Minneapolis Star Tribune (Dec. 11): "The Twins continued exploring potential trade options for Johan Santana on Monday, picking up where they left off at last week's winter meetings. While no deal appeared imminent, there were indications that in their talks with the Red Sox, the Twins were focused on a package headlined by center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury. The Red Sox have offered Ellsbury and pitcher Jon Lester in separate deals, while refusing to include both in the same offer. Of those two options, the Twins were said to be leaning toward a package of Ellsbury, infield prospect Jed Lowrie and relief prospect Justin Masterson, with the sides haggling over a fourth player. Meanwhile, the Twins' talks with the Yankees remained dormant. According to a person close to the talks, Yankees lefthander Kei Igawa was one of several players the sides discussed last week, along with righthander Phil Hughes and center fielder Melky Cabrera."
